Weird Request
Hello All!

I'm not from around here, in case my icon didn't give it away, but have a strange and vague request for help from Chuck fans. I hope this is okay here; I had a look at the posting rules, but it doesn't really fit into normal guidelines.

You see, I'm going to write a very silly story for my boyfriend's birthday, briefly touching on lots of things he loves, most of which I know tonnes about as well. Problem is, Chuck is the thing he watches when I'm not around, so I have no idea. He loves it, and I would love to find a way to include some reference to it. Maybe some funky gadget everyone wants? I really don't know the show well enough to have any idea.

If you have any thoughts as to what I could use, please, please don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me a message! I will be forever in your debt.

Well, I'm only a casual fan of Chuck myself (haven't watched all of the last season either, oops), but the main character (Chuck) has been plugged into/made into an Intersect, where he can "search" his brain for almost anything. Like become a kung-fu fighter at a moment's notice, or know random facts.

That's really the only "gadget" sort of thing I can think of, but perhaps someone who is more up on the show will pipe up.

And now I'm wondering if I'm not getting mixed up with the part in the Matrix where Keanu Reeves goes "I know kung-fu," but it's sort of the same thing in Chuck.

Awesome! You guys are amazing! I should be able to use all this. He thinks Sarah is very pretty, so I might get her to give him the brain upload thing, and the car quote is perfect. Thank you!!!

Sarah only came around *after* Chuck got the Intersect in the first place (she was Bryce's former partner at the CIA, IIRC), although I think he got a new version at some point, but I don't remember how Chuck got that one. Bryce was Chuck's friend from college, IIRC. (There is a whole sub-plot with the Intersect & Chuck's Dad...aka Scott Bakula, but I think this is probably too getting too complex for your purposes. XD)

Chuck also worked at Buy More for several seasons as an associate - a knock-off of Best Buy/Circuit City/big-box electronic store.

Hopefully some of this will be useful. I'm sure your bf will appreciate you trying to find out more about a show he likes, regardless.

Or Subway sandwiches!

Subway sandwiches?

The guys in the show enjoyed a good footlong, to the point that fans ended up doing a "Save Chuck" campaign midway through the series that involved buying a lot of Subway sandwiches. Later Subway ended up being a sponsor of the show to the point that the product placement got pretty gratuitous, though it did keep the series on the air, I guess...and still wasn't quite as blatant as Community's actually naming a character Subway.

Ah. It all makes sense again! :)

Oh! "don't freak out" is something Sarah often said to Chuck. They also had "the castle" which is what they used to refer to their homebase. Bryce Larkin is the guy who gave him the intersect in the first place. Sarah was also in the C.A.T. (Clandestine Attack Team) Squad.

Hmmm... 'don't freak out' could be perfect. That's awesome, thank you!

References could include shopping at Buy More, or Large Mart, grabbing a snack at Orange Orange, food from Weinerlicious, visiting Germany and finding the new Jeffster album.

I once snuck in a Chuck reference by having my main character drop out of Stanford's engineering program to be come a chef after all that weird stuff happened with his frat brothers (Chuck getting kicked out thanks to Bryce Larkin). Not sure if anyone got that one though.

Ooh, these are all good. Thank you so much!

Anytime. XD
I see someone above mentioned Subway sandwiches. The joke there, is when the fans decided to save the show from cancellation they did it by buying subs at Subway. The show responded by putting in gratuitous references to the restaurent in pretty much every episode.

If you wanted to sneak in a Chuck reference, an injoke way to do it would be to have your characters constantly talking about wanting to eat at Subway, and going into detail about the sandwiches.
